Description

Dec, 2025: One new set in stock! Photos are of the actual pair of headphones.

Black version of the Koss DJ Headphones! The Pro5/LC is basically the same headphone as the Pro4/AA, but it came in to-die-for black and chrome, and featured Level Control knobs on each earcup. (I remove the level controls.)

The deep, lustrous, glossy black of the earcups and headband has to be seen to be appreciated. I actually buff it out to get it like this. Contrasted with the silver color of bright brushed stainless steel. These things are just stunning,

I can’t decide which color I like better, beige or black? I guess it depends on what matches my outfit!

I reckon these are the ultimate DJ headphones! For sound, functionality and style. They are 1970-something vintage Koss model Pro/5LC. They have been meticulously restored, updated with new drivers, and given new features meant specifically for DJs.

Aside from the black color, these are identical to the beige Koss Pro4/AA Resto-modded DJ Headphones. See my blog post here for complete details of their construction, sound testing, and measurements.

New dynamic headphone driver for modern sound; 40mm Peerless/Tymphany. The driver is mounted on a custom angled bezel that floats the driver directly over the ear without actually touching it.
  • Incredible sound isolation makes cueing and mixing easier. You don’t need to have the headphones so loud to hear what you are doing.
  • Superb sound! Warm, spacious and clear. The bass kicks. Subjectively, they have a sort of “studio-monitor headphone” type sound, similar to industry standards like the Sony MDR-V7506 or Audio Technica ATH-M50x. There are no missing frequency bands, and they sound so good you can mix completely in headphones, and hear how your EQs are affecting the tonal balance. They are on the bassy side, and this is intentional for DJ headphones, where you need strong bass for beat-matching.
  • Stylish AF! Black, chrome, and brushed stainless! So 70’s! (Yes, style counts for some DJ’s, including myself, and that’s OK. It is entertainment.)
  • Locking headband adjustment for distraction-free DJ’ing. Set it and forget it.
  • Beautiful 8-core, ultra-flexible braided headphone wire.
  • Shock-cord strain relief provides accident protection for the headphones and your gear.
  • Holder for the 1/4″ to 3.5mm adapter, inline with the cable.
  • Durable. The frame is made from thick stainless spring-steel. Koss made famously indestructible headphones; One of the reasons they were an audio-production staple for decades.
  • Comfortable. Super thick memory-foam earpads. They grip your head quite firmly, but they are soft, and they do not press on your outer ear at all. I believe this lack of pressure on the outer ear also contributes to their spacious sound quality.
  • Heavy! 600 grams. I actually like this sensation, they grip tightly and are not going anywhere when you bop your head.
  • Lifetime earpad replacement for $30. (I have a stash of earpads for the future.)
  • $100 flat-rate repair warranty. No matter what’s wrong. They are 100% serviceable and I have lots of spare parts.

Photos are of the actual set of headphones for sale.

Yes they are expensive! They are many hours of meticulous work. They are boutique items and I don’t intend to sell a lot of them.
